Research Data Access Pathway
Find out if your project meets the criteria for the Research Data Access Pathway.
Find datasets and variables available through the Research Data Access Pathway.
Currently, the Research Data Access Pathway (previously called the Researcher Access Service Approval Pathway) allows researchers to apply for access to data from nine of Public Health Scotland’s most used datasets. Below, you’ll find information on which specific datasets and variables are available through this pathway.
Please note that, if your project includes datasets or variables outwith this list, including linked data, your application will follow another relevant pathway, such as the PBPP Approval Pathway or one or more Regional Safe Havens.
Research Data Access Pathway (previously referred to as the RAS pathway), enables researchers to take advantage of RDS’s agreement with Public Health Scotland to provide faster, simpler access to an expanding set of datasets through a fully digitised end-to-end application and governance process underpinned by the Five Safes Framework.
The Research Data Access Pathway enables data access for research projects using a study population and linkages from the following nine datasets:

|---|---|---|---|
Outpatient Appointments and Attendances - Scottish Morbidity Record (SMR00) | Jan 1997-2023 | ||

Please note: The most recent data available may vary per dataset. eDRIS staff will be able to provide more details once they have assessed your enquiry. Please visit the eDRIS service updates page for additional information on planned updates to select datasets.
